When a lot of people think or talk of habits, they mean the bad ones: smoking, drunkenness, voting, etc. But there are many habits that literally pay you for your adherence. Some can change your thinking and outlook and supercharge your motivation.

Erica wrote out a terrific list of habits we should all get into. Find her work (with full explanation and more) at the cool Living Life in Rural Iowa blog. I just found the website and I plan to go back frequently. You should to.

Learn to use and build the following habits/skills:

  1. Get organized. Just about everyone has room for improvement here.

  1. Be Proactive. Don’t wait until you have to act. Do it now. Get ahead.

  1. Stay healthy. This is your most important resource and one of the easiest to control.

  1. Keep learning. Always be building new skills.

  1. Learn Better Communication.

  1. Live without Debt. The debtor is the servant of the creditor. Do you want to be someone’s (anyone’s) servant? No.

  1. Follow a routine. Set one according to your needs and follow it to happiness.

  1. Practice. Whatever it is, practice makes perfect – or at least better.

  1. Sustainability. It’s not just a buzzword for colleges and SJWs.

  1. More is less. Use it up; wear it out; make it do, or: do without. Words to live better by.

They say skills trump stuff. I think they’re right. And, habits are like super skills. They allow for the building of better prepping skills in all areas. Follow and adopt the foregoing for success.
