Living free and happy and not tied down to the grid and the mad world of the masses is a prepper’s dream. Many of you are already doing it. Others have the dream. However, as the full-timers will tell you, there’s a right way and a wrong way to do it and to get started.

David from Truth Survival listed out ten things you should beware of before you go “off grid.” Take a hard look at these so as to save time, money, and aggravation. You’ll be glad you did.

“Are you tired of the rapid pace of everyday life? Are you ready to settle down on your own land while living life on your terms? If you answered “Yes”, you’re not alone. Each year, thousands of people make the switch to self-sustainability. Unfortunately, many of them are ill-equipped when they do it, and so the experience isn’t as pleasant as they imagined. To make going off the grid as smooth and seamless as possible, I recommend you avoid making the following 10 mistakes:”

Please, please consider the following points, mistakes commonly made:

Not using solar or other east, alt power;

Not going organic in the garden;

Not using gravity to feed the water system;

Not Properly disposing of wastes;

Not being armed (shocking!);

Not knowing the laws (maybe the most important issue, here);

Not having food animals;

Not having a good garden;

Not being in shape, mentally and physically; and

One more that I’m going to make you click the original to learn. Trust me, it’s a fun one.

Beyond a mere warning, David goes into good detail about things that you should do, things that will make your off grid experience happy and rewarding. Again, please consult his excellent article.

He covers:

Real estate;

Food and water;

And much more.

The last thing you want is to get “out there,” away from the problems of the world, only to find you’ve brought or created a host of troubles all your own. Do it the right way. And have fun doing it!
