Double Jeopardy, Pardon Me

The modern assault on ancient rights of Englishmen continues apace. The Common Law is dying or dead. The latest bout centers on the fantastic idiocy of the “Russia, Russia, Russia!” mania. New York is considering abolishing double jeopardy protection for those pardoned at the Federal level, leaving them open to state charges.

Once upon a time it was the doctrine that a man could only be tried for a single crime once. The past century has seen this concept steadily erode in America. Now, thanks to political foolishness, it loses another layer, of protection.
