Today more Americans than ever live in large cities. This presents everyday problems like traffic, crime, and pollution. However, in an emergency, a city is usually the last place one wants to be. Urban centers offer increased incidence of disease, rioting, and police state encounters. And they are difficult to escape from.

Thus urban preppers must understand how to survive a calamity while located in a cityscape. The Die Hard Survivor posted an interesting, video-based article on Urban Survival. If you live in or visit a city, this is definitely something to keep in mind.

This video breaks down the concepts and methods of urban survival. Riots, natural disasters and terrorist attacks are discussed.

The main ideas are to survive in the city and, then, get out as fast and as safely as one can. Many wilderness survival skills transfer to the city environment. It then becomes a matter of application, instinct and awareness. Be prepared so you can escape when the time comes.

Cities provide many great things – arts, culture, business opportunities, etc. They also have the potential to be giant human death traps when the SHTF. You need not be a casualty.

Consider and implement these urban survival tips. Practice situational awareness whenever you are in any urban center. The more people around, the more potential problems there are. Prepare, practice, and survive.
