We’ve covered this subject before, on the old FP, at least once. But it bears repeating, being critically important to survival and defense of the home, the homestead, or the retreat location. It’s area security.
Samantha Biggers at Backdoor Survival presents a brief plan to secure the perimeter. Please read through her terrific original for all suggestions and thoughts on proper defense under any circumstances.

It all boils down to peace of mind.
“Even during good times, it can be pretty annoying or frightening to have others just come on your place with no warning. While hunters are generally harmless, it can be unnerving to have an armed person or several people suddenly on your property.”
-Biggers
Once you have the perfect place in which to ride out Doomsday, you must endeavor to keep it safe from any and all interlopers. Fences and dogs go a long way in this regard. They say, “fences make good neighbors.” They are correct.
Biggers also delves into the benefits of having and maintaining the following:
Location (location, location, location – the less people in the area, the fewer guests…);
Guard dogs;
Better Fences (not all are equal in all circumstances);
Weapons (for active defense);
Signage (when words are mightier than swords);
Surveillance Cameras;
Proper use and Maintenance of Vegetation (cutting the bad, planning the good);
Strategic use of barbed wire;
Again, please click and read all of her valuable tips!
*Samantha Biggers lives on the side of a mountain in North Carolina with her husband and pack of loyal hounds in a house her husband and she built themselves. When not writing she is working in their vineyard, raising Shetland sheep, or helping her husband with whatever the farm and vineyard can throw at them.
These suggestions are critical for when things finally go bad, or from bad to worse. However, they are still important during “good” times. In addition to privacy, they will assist with developing real security and a deterrent against bad human behavior.
