It all boils down to peace of mind.

Once you have the perfect place in which to ride out Doomsday, you must endeavor to keep it safe from any and all interlopers. Fences and dogs go a long way in this regard. They say, “fences make good neighbors.” They are correct.
Biggers also delves into the benefits of having and maintaining the following:
Location (location, location, location – the less people in the area, the fewer guests…);
Guard dogs;
Better Fences (not all are equal in all circumstances);
Weapons (for active defense);
Signage (when words are mightier than swords);
Surveillance Cameras;
Proper use and Maintenance of Vegetation (cutting the bad, planning the good);
Strategic use of barbed wire;
