This is and is not an article about the ongoing Impeachment of President Donald Trump. Some say it’s a historic or monumental episode in the saga of our Nation. Others say it’s plain boring. You can (and likely have) decide that. Maybe there’s a reason why the Senate gallery is more than half empty…

My title word – Supermajority – essentially says all there is to know about these proceedings. It all goes back to that Constitution thing.
“The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.” – US Const., Art. I, Sec. Three.
Any bets on getting to two-thirds? Me either.
