Ten Last Second Preps You Must Remember When The Time Comes

The day may come when you have to bug out and fast. You’re reading this because you’re one of the few who are prepared to do so. Still, everyone can use a reminder or two from time to time. Don’t forget the little things when the rubber hits the road.

Gaye at Backdoor Survival offered a list of Last Second Preps to remember. These are little things that one must do in order to make a smooth and quick getaway. Most of these are common sense but they are worth repeating and making a habit. Just in case.

Last Minute Preps

1. Gas The Car

The last thing you want is to be low on fuel when the time comes to evacuate. Be mindful of when your car hits a half tank or a quarter tank. Make a habit of refueling early so you don’t panic later.

2. Laundry

This is a little thing but it’s important. Like the gar tank, you don’t want to venture out with nothing to wear. Sure, you probably have clothes in the bug out bag. But you’ll be happier if you have your favorite items ready and clean when the time comes to pack up. Don’t put it off too long. This is also a great reminder to be tidy at all times.

3. Medications

Always make sure your OTC and prescriptions are filled and ready to deploy. Consider a bug out medical kit independent of your medicine cabinet.

4. Charge Those Devices

Assuming the power grid and the satellites stay up, you’ll want to keep in touch. And that means power. Keep a charge on your phone, tablet, etc. And remember that you might need an auxiliary cable or two.

5. Lights and Batteries

Have a backup system and a backup for the backup. Flashlights in case the power is out. Candles in case the batteries run out. Have these items on hand and ready now.

6. Fuel and Fire

Keeping a little firewood and fire starting material on hand is a plus. If you have to camp out, things will go smoother if you can start a fire right away. Gather now, burn later with ease.

7. Fresh Fruits and Veggies

It is entirely possible to survive on MREs and protein bars. But it sure is nice to have fresh sweet fruit and fiber and minerals from the greens. Keep a nice supply of fresh foods on hand so you can pack a little of it when the time comes. Consider canning where applicable so you can prolong the food comforts.

8. Booze

If it all goes to hell in a handbasket you might need a drink. Make sure you have a little something to see you through. Even if you’re a tea-totaller, you might consider a little alcohol. It can be used for medical treatments and as a barter item.

9. Disposable Utensils, Etc.

Keep some paper plates and cups handy. If your bug out is short, then you can get by without having to do the dishes. Also remember to not make a mess. Some of these items can be added to the fire – eat drink and keep warm.

10. Chocolate

As with wine and spirits, a little chocolate can be a comfort or a way to trade. Keep a candy bar or two just in case.

Odds are you are ready to run if you have to. That’s the beauty and the purpose of prepping. However, don’t stumble on the little things. Make a checklist of items you really need and a list of last-minute things to do. This will help you escape smoothly.

I’m sure you can add a few points to this excellent list of reminders. You may have personal needs to consider. Everyone is a little different. Whatever it is, just make sure it is ready when needed. Plan now, prep now, execute with perfection later.
